Philadelphians are always throwing interesting and unexpected events, mounting <\/strong>impressive productions<\/a>, and otherwise celebrating their city \u2014 but things really kick into gear during the winter months. Here\u2019s what\u2019s happening in the City of Brotherly Love from Thanksgiving to late February 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Food and Drink Destinations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are dozens of restaurants opening between mid-November and February, including a farm-to-table venue in Callowhill, a brewery in Kensington, and a South Philly diner-style eatery. If you visit sometime around Thanksgiving, you\u2019ll also be among the first to experience a new Italian spot conceived by local celebrity chef Marc Vetri. Alternatively, swing by in January for Winterfest Live!, a massive craft-beer celebration in South Philly, as well as Center City Restaurant Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incredible Performances<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Winter is a time when many of the local bands and theater and dance troupes debut their new work, and national tours make Philly stops. This year, you can look forward to a Doctor Who parody called \u201cTimeprov,” a comedy called \u201cStones in His Pockets,\u201d a winter spectacular by Labyrinth Dance Company, Cher and Madonna concerts, plus productions of \u201cThe Band\u2019s Visit,<\/em>\u201d <\/em>\u201cLes Miserables,\u201d and \u201cHello Dolly.\u201d Theatre Week rolls around in February and brings 10 days of exciting theatrical events at highly discounted rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festivals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a Philly festival or event happening almost every week of the winter, from a pop-up art exhibit that starts in mid-November, known as \u201cPhoto Pop Philly: Winter Wonderland,\u201d to the African American Children\u2019s Book Fair in early February. And we can\u2019t forget the iconic Mummers Parade on New Year\u2019s Day, known to be the oldest folk festival in America, and the re-enactment of George Washington\u2019s crossing of the Delaware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
